PRESS RELEASE -2017 Champion City Kings

Champion City continues family oriented tradition with father son coaching combo

The Champion City Kings is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Ruechel as the new 2017 head coach. He brings with him a plethora of experience, most recently as the hitting coach for the Lake Erie Crushers.  Along with that role, he also serves as an assistant coach at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Kings General Manager, Rick White remarked that “Ruechel joins us because of his twenty plus years of coaching experience at various levels. We really believe Ruechel fits in with the current coaching staff providing a well rounded professional experience.”

Coach Ruechel comes to Springfield as a versatile coach having coached at many levels of the game including high school, junior college, four-year universities, and the professional level. He has proven himself with first-hand understanding of what it takes to direct a successful program demonstrating great player relations, strong values, and efficient teaching methods that produce purpose, direction, and energy.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to come to Springfield and be a part of this tremendous organization. The first thing that stood out for me was the professional approach they embrace and how it gives their players a good taste of what the professional game of baseball is all about. On top of that, they exhibit great leadership as well as offer second to none resources for their players and staff and I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity. My expectations for this year’s team is based on realistic, but demanding standards settling on nothing less than everyone’s best effort, attitude, and concentration,” said Ruechel.

The Champion City Kings have also appointed Evan Ruechel to the coaching staff. Evan will serve in the capacity of Hitting/Assistant coach for the Champion City Kings. Currently Evan is coaching at Indiana Wesleyan University working with hitters, catchers, and infielders. Evan played his collegiate career at St. Ambrose University while also spending time in the Northwoods league.

“Our expectation”  White added, “is that Ruechel will take the team to the next level and we will be able help us achieve our goal of becoming league champions.”
